Introducing the NSMC Class of 2023

We are excited to introduce the 9th NSMC internship class, the class of 2023. This group of 34 will join the 185 graduates of the program since 2015. Our class comprises of 34 individuals from 15 countries. Learn their names and follow them because they will be producing the visual abstracts, journal clubs, blog posts, tweetorials, and podcasts! These are also the future leaders of nephrology.

AC Gomez

I am a med/peds nephrology fellow at MGH/Brigham in Boston, MA who is interested in transitions of care for patients with kidney disease. In addition, I love medical education and demystifying the kidneys. I am originally from outside of Philadelphia and when not sharing my love of the kidneys I am rooting for Philly sports teams.

Ali Rizvi

I am a first year nephrology fellow at The Ohio State University. I grew up in Lima, Ohio with roots in northern India and have a background in biological engineering before pursuing medicine. I love traveling, singing ghazals (Indian folk songs) alongside playing the harmonium, playing board games and I am a big sports fan. My wife and I love to spend time with family and friends in our free time!

Anitha Swamy

I am an early career nephrologist based in Hyderabad, India. I am a firm believer in the aggregation of marginal gains by trying to get 1% better everyday. I love espionage thrillers. Language enthusiast. Amigo del Kidneys!

Arjun Mohan

I am a 2nd year internal medicine resident who is interested in nephrology. I am a former research fellow at the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Mayo Clinic.

Arrsh Bajaj

I am an internal medicine resident at St Elizabeth Hospital Youngstown, Ohio who will be starting a nephrology fellowship at Ohio State in July. I traveled around the world to become a professional listener. Everyone has a story. I am a doctor who is still a student at heart and a fan of kidney beans in the hospital and in the kitchen.

Arturo Carranza

I am a physician from Guatemala, Central America. Currently an internal medicine intern at Saint Peter's University Hospital - Robert Wood Johnson, New Jersey. I enjoy running, traveling, listening to podcasts, and watching movies. I am interested in all things nephrology and thrilled to join the NSMC class of 2023.

Brammah Thanga

I am an aspiring educator, nephrologist and a lecturer in medicine. I live in the northernmost part of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. I am Attached to the Department of Medicine, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and also a happy member of the Renal Care Team of Teaching Hospital in Jaffna. My life motto is, “My duty is to labor”.

Danielle Aliano

I'm a second year Internal Medicine resident in New Orleans, LA. I'm originally from NY but spent 7 years prior to residency in Australia where I completed medical school and worked as a resident. I'm applying to a nephrology fellowship this year and am excited to dive deeper into the nephrology world through the NSMC internship! Among other activities, I enjoy traveling, photography, and hanging out with my husky in my free time.

DO Abade

I'm a senior house officer working for Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu City, Kenya for the past three and half years. I hope to join a masters program in Internal Medicine by the end of the year. I like traveling, swimming, fishing and reading novels.

Franklin Loachamin

I'm from Ecuador and am the #1 fan of the NSMC. Life is not dialyzed, nor the good times, nor the days in the sun, nor the kisses. Neither family, hope, the desire to fly, nor dreams. Neither the contagious laughter of a child, friends, tenderness, nor projects. Not the cool summer breeze, love, the taste of a good wine or desires.

Emilia Maria Cadiz

Hi! I'm Emilia: a 1.5 Generation Filipina-American, first generation physician, and pediatric nephrology fellow based in Atlanta, GA. During my childhood, my parents emphasized the importance of making meaningful connections and keeping close-knit friendships in the face of distance and differences. Seeing the enthusiastic love nephrology has for sharing knowledge inspired me to apply to the NSMC Internship. I look forward to connecting with others, exchanging experiences, and learning skills to effectively share my passion for nephrology, advocacy, and education.

Isha Tiwari

I am a consultant nephrologist at a tertiary care academic institute in India. Enthusiastic about kidney transplantation and glomerular diseases. I wish to employ social media to gain and spread knowledge. I am deeply fond of reading fiction and medical poetry.

Iván Rodríguez

I am a nephrology fellow in Mexico City with a special interest in glomerular diseases. I am a FOAMed believer. Looking forward to learning from the best and hope to translate this to a positive impact on the quality of life of my patients.

Jenn Nhan

I am a second year pediatric nephrology fellow at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC. Clinically I am interested in advocacy and social determinants of health in children with chronic and end-stage kidney disease. Outside the hospital, you can find me baking, hiking and exploring new restaurants.

Jeyakumar Meyyappan

I am a career Nephrologist from Lucknow, India. Topics of interest include kidney transplantation, ANCA vasculitis and acute kidney injury. My long term focus is to develop a rural healthcare model for nephrology services in low and middle income countries. Think Global and Act Local!

Jithu Kurian

I am an avid learner, father of two sons, passionate about preserving, treating, and transplanting kidneys. I believe that teaching is the best way of learning and enjoy it more than anything, both with my kids or students. I am always wanting to do what evidence tells me and not what my gut says.

Louis Firket

I am a nephrology fellow from Belgium. I aspire to become an interventional nephrologist.

Melvin Chan

I am a pediatric nephrology fellow and an adult primary care provider. I am interested in improving transition of care and cardiorenal syndrome. In my free time I love traveling to Las Vegas and playing poker.

Milagros Flores

I am a passionate lover of coffee mornings, nephrology and extracorporeal therapies. Enjoying this journey and the interaction that social media allows me with the world 🌏.

Nihal Bashir

I am an enthusiastic, hardworking, nephrology specialist at Seha Kidney care-AlA in UAE. I was a GlomCon graduate in 2022 with a master degree of organ transplantation at the University of Liverpool.

Nikita Pawar

I am a nephrologist and transplant physician at SGRH in Delhi, India.

Nyi Min Han

I am a junior nephrologist from Myanmar. I have special interests in glomerular diseases. I am really happy to be part of the NSMC 2023 and look forward to learning nephrology and modern communication skills. Besides nephrology I love listening to music and running.

Pallavi Prasad

I am an early career nephrologist from New Delhi, India with special interest in glomerular diseases and kidney transplantation. I am currently working as an assistant professor at an academic nephrology department but I identify myself more as a lifelong student. Amateur gardener, travel enthusiast and foodie!

Rasha Alawieh

I am a second year internal medicine resident. I completed a fellowship in nephrology and transplant. I love medicine and education, and look forward to being part of NSMC.

Renz Michael Pasilan

I'm an early career nephrologist from Parañaque City, Philippines with particular fascination with Kidney Transplantation and Hypertension. As a (very) recent FOAMed and #NephTwitter follower, I am excited to explore this side of medical education further and become an effective and responsible kidney health advocate.

Sabarinath

I am an alumnus of SGPGIMS in India, post doctoral fellow in kidney transplantation. I am currently working as a consultant nephrologist and kidney transplant physician at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.

Sadia Jahan

I am a nephrologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. I completed MBBS from University College London in the UK and moved to Australia for training. I completed Basic Physician Training in Canberra and Advanced Training in Brisbane and Adelaide. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Medicine program with the University of Sydney, Australia. I love traveling, photography, and learning new skills and languages.

Sameen Aamer

I am an internal medicine resident at Allegheny Hospital in PIttsburgh Pennsylvania. I am an art enthusiast. 🇵🇰

Saumya Vishnoi

I am a senior resident in Nephrology at KEM Mumbai, India. I recently completed my nephrology fellowship from Global Hospital Mumbai. I love music, poetry, and novels.

Sheda Edding

I am a NYC transplant from the Philippines who is on the (tubular) road to becoming the best Kidney MD I can be. I will be starting a nephrology fellowship in Chicago this July and am beyond ecstatic for the upcoming journey. Here to keep things re(n)al! 😉

I am a current 2nd year  internal medicine resident at WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh, NC. As someone originally from Colorado, I love to spend time outdoors hiking with my dog, tending to my houseplants and snowboarding when I can go back to the mountains.

Subashri Mohanasundaram

I am a budding nephrologist, currently working as an assistant professor at Government Medical College, Tuticorin, the 'Pearl City’ of South India. I have always been passionate and excited about all aspects of nephrology - clinical research, patient care, learning and most importantly, teaching. I look forward to upskilling and collaborating with my fellow doctors. Personally, I enjoy playing with my 3 year old nephew and I read fiction once in a while!

Tyler Maggio

I am a first year resident in internal medicine at the University of Iowa with my sights on a future career in nephrology. Born, raised, and married to my lovely wife in Rockford, IL. In our free time, we love hosting and exploring our cookbooks for recipes that get people to come back around as well as perennially planning our next trip.

Yasir Baloch

I am a future nephrologist by passion, hobbyist photographer and a video-maker. I enjoy road trips, bicycling and hiking. I am originally from Balochistan Pakistan, currently based in Florida and looking forward to starting a fellowship at Washington Uni St Louis in 2023.
